Alfred Francis Szaroletta, age 86, of Ontonagon, Michigan went to be with his Lord on Friday, October 30, 2015. He was born to Ignace and Josephine in Ontonagon on March 2, 1929. He married Yvonne Aubrey June 6, 1954. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Alfred worked for the White Pine Copper Mine for a time before spending most of his working career at the local paper mill, where he became the Superintendent of Pulp, Power and Recovery.
Alfred had a strong faith and was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He had a love and devotion for family and was quick to lend a hand to anyone at any time. He had a joyful sense of humor and a passion for gardening, cooking, baking and family history. He led an active retirement, being a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteering at his church, St Vincent DePaul and the Ontonagon Visitor Center.
Alfred is survived by his children Diane (Mrs. Roger Chaffee of Marshfield, Wisconsin), James (and Susan of Collierville, Tennessee), Carol (Ontonagon), Patrick ( and Laurel of Clarkston, Michigan), Steven (and Lu Ann of Apalachin, New York) and Mark (Grand Rapids, Michigan). He is survived by sisters Margaret (Mrs. John Rolla of Summit, Illinois) and Donna (and Edward Loutzenhiser, Ontonagon). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Kendrick, Kelsey (Maston Buchanan), Jordan, Drew, Brian, Abby, Emily, his two great-grandchildren, Makayla and Riley, seven step-grandchildren and nineteen step-great-grandchildren.
Alfred was preceded in death by Yvonne, his wife of 40 years, son Andrew, siblings Mary (Mrs. Robert Forbes), Stanley, Lawrence, Edmund (Joyce), and son-in-law Roger Chaffee.
Visitation will take place at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 3. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. There will be visitation at Holy Family Church in Ontonagon at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 4 followed by a funeral mass officiated by Reverend Michael J. Jacobus at 11:00 AM. He will be buried next to his wife and son at Holy Family Cemetery in Ontonagon following the mass.
In memory of Alfred and Yvonne, feel free to make donations to the American Cancer society or any cancer cause. Donations can also be made to St. Vincent DePaul in honor of Alfred's volunteer work.
