Arelene J. Niemi, 78, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2015, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring, FL
Arelene was born February 3rd, 1937 in East Liverpool, Ohio to Sherman and Velma Rice. She was a graduate of East Liverpool High school. After graduation, she attended a year of business school, then worked as a secretary until she married and moved to Mass City, MI in 1957. She also lived in Ontonagon, then Saulte Ste Marie, MI before moving to Lake Placid, Florida in 2004.
Arelene survived her first husband, Mr. Alvar Niemi, who passed away in 1995, and then went on to marry Edward Niemi in 2000.
Arelene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed shopping, crafting, baking, traveling, fishing, music and theater. Her greatest joy in life was her family, who will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Alvar Niemi, and her parents, Sherman and Velma Rice.
Arelene is survived by her husband, Edward; children, Alan (Cindy) Niemi of Longview, TX; Adell (Patrick) Domitrovich of Seattle, WA; Andrew (Carissa) Niemi of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren Nathaniel, Jessica (Jon), Tyler, Hunter, Lydia, and Fionntan; great grandchildren, Eva and Elliot; step-children Mike Niemi, Gary (Theresa) Niemi, Susan Niemi; step-grandchildren, Mathew, Jesica (Kyle), and Christopher; brother, Curt (Becky) Rice, step-brother-in-law, Dale (Shirley) Blake; and many special nieces, nephews, step-nieces, and step-nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 22nd, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Ontonagon, with visitation one hour before the service. The Cane Funeral Home-Ontonagon is assisting the family. Interment will follow at the Greenland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to Redeemer Free Lutheran Church, Ontonagon, MI, or Good Shepherd Hospice House, Sebring, Fl.
