Bertha V (Nurkkala) Niemi

Bertha V. Niemi, (96), of Trout Creek,Michigan passed away on April 10, 2016 in Trenton,Michigan.   

Bertha was born in Paynesville, Michigan to George & Mary Nurkkala on January 7, 1920.  She went to school in Paynesville, Michigan.  She married Eino Isaac Niemi on February 1, 1947 in Wakefield, Michigan. She worked on an assembly line for Burrough’s Corporation for 15 years and retired in 1975.  She was a veteran of WWII and served in the Coast Guard.   

She was a member of the American Legion. 

Bertha is survived by: Her daughters Cheryl (Dave) Meszaros and Cecelia Brandes. Brother Stanley (Joan) Nurkkala, Daughter-in-law Agnes Niemi,  five Grandchildren and eleven great-Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  

Bertha is preceded in death by her husband Eino and son Leland and twelve brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 10:00 to noon on Wednesday, April 13th at the Ralph Ridge Chapel in Trenton, Michigan. 

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 13th at Ralph Ridge Chapel with Greyson Grenz of Trinty Lutheran Ministries officiating.  A visitation service will also be held at the Cane Funeral home in Bruce Crossing on Monday, April 18th from noon to 2:00 P.M.  Burial will follow in late Spring at the Trout Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cane Funeral Home. 

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
