Doris Katherine Cane 84 of Ontonagon passed away Friday, December 11, 2015 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital's Long Term Care Unit.
She was born January 1, 1931 in Ontonagon, MI, daughter of the late Carl and Moselle (Colclasure) Allen. Doris graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1949. On January 8, 1955 she was united in marriage to Lyal Cane. he preceded her in death in 1995.
Doris assisted in operating the family business, Cane Funeral Home. She was a great comfort to many in their time of grief. Doris took great pride in her work there but her most important role was being an exceptional mother to her children. In her younger years she was a terrific athlete. Doris enjoyed skiing, skating, bowling and golf. While pregnant with her third child, she was the U.P. Women's Bowling Champion. Doris was a wonderful wife, mother grandmother and friend. Her children will always consider her "The Best Mother Ever" and were envied by many of their friends.
Despite dealing with many tragedies in her life, Doris kept a positive outlook due to her faith in God.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyal, 2 beloved sons Allen & Michael, brother Merle Allen and nephew Gary Allen.
Doris is survived by her daughters Candy (Bruce) Miller of Marquette, MI & Janet Cane of San Diego, CA, her son John P. Cane of Ontonagon, MI, 7 grandchildren Emily (Kanat) Ilter, Benjamin (Hilary) Miller, Blair Miller, Rachael Park & Joseph, Olivia and Natalie Cane, 3 great-grandchildren Corinne & Alexander Ilter and Bridget Miller, brother Gerald Allen, sister Marjorie Khoury, nieces and nephews; Dennis, Sally, Linda and Patrick Allen and Danny, Joan Kathy & Jane Khoury.
Visitation services will be held Wednesday December 16th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, MI. Funeral services will take place Thursday, December 17th at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ontonagon. Friends may also call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon.
Doris' family would especially like to thank the wonderful staff of the Aspirus Long Term Care unit who took such loving care of their mother.
