Edward James Loutzenhiser left this earth to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, August 18, 2016. His last days on earth were spent at his home with family at his side.

Ed was born in Greenville, PA on February 20, 1936 to Albert & Geraldine (Mallory) Loutzenhiser. He attended schools in Mineral Ridge, OH, Goodyear, AZ, Greenville, PA and Ontonagon, MI. He completed his education at Hennepin Tech in Eden Prairie, MN.

Ed volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army between the years of 1957 & 1959. He then returned to Ontonagon to work at the paper mill. After moving to Minneapolis, MN area, he spent the rest of his working years employed at Honeywell, Inc. until his retirement.

On June 30, 1966 Ed was united in marriage to Donna Szaroletta and settled in Chaska, MN. He was active in the community and in the church he attended. He belonged to the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. In 1984 he was professed as a Secular Franciscan and patterned his life after St. Francis. He was an admirer of the Vincentian way of life.

Ed, along with his wife raised 4 children of whom he was very proud to have.

After retirement in 1998, plans were being made to move back to Ontonagon. Ed & Donna became residents of Ontonagon on January 1, 2000. Some of his enjoyment of living in the Upper Peninsula came from hunting & fishing. He loved to go for rides in his boat and walks in the summer through the forest when the leaves crunched under his feet and the air was crisp. He became a member of the Lake Superior Sportsman’s Club.

Ed also enjoyed the Vincentian spirit. He enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Preceding Ed in death were his parents, aunts & uncles and his brother-in-law’s who he considered his friends.

Ed is survived by his wife Donna, children Beth (Don) Oakley of Ontonagon, Jay (Misty) of Hutchinson, MN, Wade (Jennifer) of Waconia, MN and Daniel (special friend Rachel Hocking) of White Pine, 2 wonderful grandchildren Mackenzie and Hunter of Waconia, MN, his sister Judith Hokkanen of Ontonagon, brother Mark (Denise) of Washburn, ND and many nieces, nephews & many dear friends.
