Edwin Joseph Hokans

Edwin J Hokans, 80 of Ontonagon, MI died peacefully at home with his family by his side on December 14, 2016. Ed was born June 21st, 1936 to Edwin and Esther (Menigoz) Hokans. He attended the Ontonagon Schools and graduated in the class of 1954. Ed joined the US Navy immediately after graduation. He served on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific. On discharge he attended MI Tech for a year. He attended DeVry Technical School in Chicago were he continued his education in electronics. He worked for Gibbs Manufacturing in Janesville, WI for 2 years. He met his wife Sue (Johnson) of 56 years in Milwaukee on a blind date. They were married in Oshkosh WI on April 8, 1961. They moved to Ontonagon in 1962 purchasing Hokans Chalet Cottages, part of the family business. Ed loved hunting with his dad and relatives. He made wonderful memories for his family of their travels in the family motorhome to various parts of the country. Ed could fix just about anything. Ed was preceded in death by his sons Greg and John Hokans. Surviving are his wife Sue, children Judy, Patrick and Zachary Hokans, grandchildren Hans and Christian Hokans, Karissa Hokans, Evelyn, Lily and Patrick Hokans and his great grand child Josephine Hokans. A mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, December 20th at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon at 11 am, visitation will be at the church from 10 am to 11am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ed's name to St. Vincent De Paul in Ontonagon, MI.
