Elizabeth “Betty” Jean (Geist) Pollard, 92, went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2017.
She was born, March 12, 1925 in Ontonagon, MI to Ben and Flora (Valley) Geist who lived here years ago. She married George Pollard in 1946 in Ontonagon. George died in 2012. They were married for 66 years. They weren’t blessed with children but between Betty and George’s family they had many nieces and nephews that they loved, enjoyed and cared for. Betty made sure that each one of them received a card on their birthday with a new one dollar bill in them.
She graduated in 1943 from the Ontonagon High School and went to work soon after. Her first job was working for Muskatts Department Store and Rosemurgy’s for 30 years. In 1981 when St. Vincent DePauls opened their doors she was there. She volunteered and worked many hours off and on for the next 30 years when in 2016 she retired from working.
Betty was a gardener, when her father died in 1947 she took over the garden. For years she planted and canned. Later she made pickles and sold them. She had lots of customers. Betty is the last of the Ben and Flora family. There were 8 children, Alvin, Margaret, Charles, Louis, Jule, Garnet, Delema.
She is survived by 3 nieces and 2 nephews, Pat Preiss , Betty Jo Parent of Ontonagon, Loris McKerchie of Sault Ste Marie, MI. Robert Summerville of South Carolina, Mark Geist and Pat Askala of Ohio and many great nieces and nephews. 2 sister-in-laws, Annable Yaunke of Kolgate, WI and Marge Pollard of Ontonagon. 2 Brother-in-laws Frank and William Pollard of Ontonagon.
Betty was an master gardener, as she worked, she talked and prayed to the weeds and crops.

Graveside services will take place Wednesday, May.23, 2018 at Holy Family Cemetery with Father Michael Jacobus officiating. .
The Cane Funeral Home of Ontonagon is assisting the family.
