Elna K. (Waisanen) Lampi

Elna K. Lampi, 92, of Mass City passed away on November 15, 2015 at the Aspirus Ontonagon Long Term Care facility.  She was born on November 30, 1922 to Charles and Helia (Taurianen) Waisanen.  She attended schools in Aura, Pequaming, and L’Anse, and graduated from Mackenzie High School and Burroughs Business Machines School in Detroit, Michigan.

She met her future husband, Urho E. Lampi, in Detroit, and was married to him on August 26, 1942.  When her husband entered the service, she followed him to Baltimore, Maryland, and worked at the Edgewood Arsenal headquarters.  When Urho was sent overseas, she returned to Detroit and worked at Packard Motor Company and Florence Crittenton Hospital.  In 1947 they moved to Simar, Michigan, where Urho took over the dairy farm of his father.

Urho and Elna had two children, Carole and Harold.  Elna had four brothers and three sisters, all of whom preceded her in death.

Elna was preceded in death by her husband, Urho.  She is survived by her son, Harold Lampi of Mass City; her daughter, Carole (Glenn) Makin of Highland, Michigan and their children Brenda (Brian) Punches of Highland and their children Gabrielle and Nathan; Michael (Ruby) Makin of Waterford, Michigan; Eric (Jessica) Makin of White Lake, Michigan and their children Bryson and Nicholas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elna loved having company, especially when family came from further away to visit.  She enjoyed cooking and made great roasts and apple pie.  She thoroughly loved living in the Upper Peninsula and enjoyed life.  The family has many memories of her laughter and sense of humor.

A memorial service will be held in late Spring or early Summer 2016.
