Ida M. (Frisk) Holmstrom

April 26, 1921 ~ May 5, 2015 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Ida M. Holmstrom, 94, passed away peacefully at Aspirus on May 5th with her family at her side.  Ida was born April 26th, 1921 to Finnish immigrants, Andrew & Kaisa Frisk in Rousseau.

She attended school in Rousseau thru eighth grade.

She married Godfrey Holmstrom on May 9th, 1939 in Mass City.  They then moved to Bisbee, AZ for 3 years, where Godfrey worked in the mines.  They then lived in Bay City, MI during WWII, where Godfrey worked in a ship yard.  They then returned to the Mass City area.

She was a loving Mother and Grandmother, she enjoyed cooking and keeping her home in top shape.  She enjoyed tatting and crocheting.  Over her life time she made hundreds of afghans for family, friends and others. She learned to play pool later in life and loved playing on the local women’s pool league.  She loved her nights out playing pool with “the Girls”.

Her favorite trip was to Hauki Pudas, Finland to visit her cousins and their families and to see the birth place of her Mother.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband Godfrey; her parents; her son, Gerald; sisters Mildred "Irene,” and Jennie; and brothers Onni, Eino, George, and Toivo.

Ida is survived by her sister, Signe "Betty"; her children Godfrey (Gail) Holmstrom, Gale (Joanna) Holmstrom, and Janet (Ron) Miesbauer;  grandchildren Geri Holmstrom, Geoffrey Holmstrom, Brad Holmstrom, Eric Holmstrom, Roy Holmstrom, Brissa Holmstrom, Carson Holmstrom and Whitney Miesbauer; great-grandchildren, Amber and Chris Brown, Travis Holmstrom, Luke and Lexi Holmstrom, and Ryan Holmstrom; great-grandson Javier; and daughter-in-law Eileen Holmstrom-Koski.  In addition, she considered John Maloney, Edward and Dolly Rousseau, and Donna Wesander a part of her family.

A service will be held this summer.
