Lloyd Sloat

June 11, 1935 ~ October 30, 2016 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Lloyd Earl Sloat, 81, of Menasha, WI formely of Ontonagon, MI, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.

Lloyd was born in Iron River, MI on June 11, 1935 to Signe and Lionel Sloat.  He graduated from Iron River High School in 1953 and attended the Coyne Electical College in Chicago as well as other studies with ICS.  After serving an apprenticeship, Lloyd was appointed to journeyman lineman.  He was transferred to Ontonagon in 1965 and served as general foreman until 1976 when he was appointed to the position of District Superintendent until his retirement in 1994. Lloyd served his country in the US Army during 1957 and 1958.  His overseas tour was served in Germany.  .

Lloyd was married to Mae J. Roe from Iron River, MI on January 10, 1959, Together the couple celebrated 57 years of marriage this past January.

Lloyd played American Legion Baseball for Post 17, was a member of the team that won the Upper Pennisula championship title for 2 straight years and played in the state finals in Detroit, MI  He then went on to play with the Iron River Red Legs.  In his earlier years,  he enjoyed trout fishing and hunting with his brothers.  As time went on, he learned to enjoy photography, hunting with his children, golfing, gardening, woodworking and carving.  He spent much of his free time at his camp on the Middle Branch of the Ontonagon River.  He also enjoyed spending time traveling to Gulf Shores, AL. as well as traveling to Wisconsin to spend time with his children and grandchildren.  He was a former member of the Ontonagon Lions Club, Ontonagon Golf Club and served on the board of directors of the Citizens State Bank in Ontonagon for 20 plus years. He was an avid and loyal sports fan for all Michigan teams.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Mae; three children; Deanna (Michael) Hurley of Appleton, WI, Douglas Sloat of Appleton, WI and Kenneth ((Kelly) Sloat of Merrill, WI;  grandchildren; Megan Hurley, Casey Hurley, Derek Sloat and Evan Sloat.

In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey and Siblings; James, Roland, Jack and Marian (Gerald) Hegstrom.

The funeral service will be held at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, MI on Saturday, November 19, 2016 with Reverend Howie Neider Officiating.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 AM with a prayer service to follow at 11:00 AM.  In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ontonagon County Cancer Society.
