Marie Helen Alapert, 84 of Mass City, recently of Ontonagon passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 26, 2017.
Marie was born at home in Mass City November 17, 1932, daughter of the late Eino & Helen (Willman) Kaarto. She was educated in the Mass Area Schools. Marie was married to the late Norman Alapert in the parsonage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mass City.
Marie spent her years in Lower Michigan being self-employed with her cleaning company, retiring and returned to the Mass City area in 1992. Marie, not one to shy away from work, worked at St. Vincent DePaul in Ontonagon for 4 years.
Marie was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and never missed a televised game. Marie enjoyed fishing, picking berries, playing bingo, baking, and canning. She loved spending time with her family, friends and her great grandchildren, who kept her on her toes.
Marie is survived by her 4 children, David "Dobs" of Ontonagon, only daughter and best friend Judy Idol of Mass City, Bobby (Debbie) of Westland, and Terry of Fowlerville. 6 grandchildren Teresa Way of Hurley, Ricky (Heather) Way of Fenton, Candice Teddy, Samantha Alapert both of Farmington Hills, Terry Jr. & Ashley Alapert of Fowlerville, 1 step-grandson Moe (Jodi) Marchand. 9 great-grandchildren Keira (Tyler) Way of Watford City, Jacob Pantti of Hurley, Katrina, Alexandra, Aaron and Austyn Way of Fenton and Brandon Teddy of Farmington Hills, Delilah of Fowlerville, and Scout Marchand. 2 brothers, Norman Kaarto of Ontonagon, and Gary (Lucy) Kaarto of Mass City. 4 sisters, Florence (Ron) Sandve of Cumberland, Jeannette (Norm) Juntunen of Farmington Hills, Joyce (Don) Liuska of Alma and Doris (Dave) Carlson of Nisula. Several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins. Special friends, Virginia and Dot.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman Alapert, her two sons Norman “Butchie” Alapert, and Gary “Nonny Alapert
