Mary Ellen (Walters) Schmaus, 102, passed away May 21, 2016 at Aspirus Ontonagon Long Term Care. She was born October 31, 1913 in Greenland, Michigan to the late James Truscott and Laura (Rogers) Truscott.

She graduated from Mass City High School and married Delmer Walters on January 7, 1935 in Houghton, Michigan and moved to Rockland where they made their home. They had two sons, James and Howard. She worked many years at the Ontonagon County Health Department and retired from there. After the death of her first husband Delmer in 1963, she later  married Anton Schmaus and enjoyed her new extended Schmaus family. They traveled to Florida, Canada, and the West Coast fishing and hunting.

She is survived by her sister Evelyn DeHut and sister-in-law, Doris Truscott, sons, James (Charlotte) Walters, Howard (Carole) Walters, grandchildren, James Walters Jr., Peter Walters, Peggy Ann Walters, Lonnie (Lynn) Walters, Lisa (Tony) Mankin, Steven (Lisa) Walters, Jeffrey (Dawn) Walters, Also great grandchildren, Mathew, Tyler, Christie, Russell, Brooke, Jennifer, Julie, Tony, Adam, Brittany and Austin. Seven great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She had a great love for family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by husband Anton Schmaus, Three sisters, Laura Clayton, Florence Martin and Lucy Heikkanen, three brothers, William Truscott, James Truscott and Eugene Truscott, and one great grandson Lucas J. Kosey.

She spent her final years at Aspirus Ontonagon Long Term Care where she had many friends and loving and caring staff.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 26,2016 at 11am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland, Michigan with Father Michael Jacobus officiating. Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland, Michigan.
