Mildred Lahti Miilu of Mass City passed away May 17, 2015 at Unity Hospice in De Pere, WI. Mildred was born February 29, 1924, in Mass to Nickolai and Sanelma Wertanen Lahti.

Mildred graduated Mass High School and moved to Chicago for employment including a job with an airplane parts supplier during World War II. It was during this time she started her lifelong passion for the Chicago Cubs. After her marriage in 1946 to Walter Miilu they made their home in Pontiac, MI and five years later returned to Mass. She was employed by he local school district as a teacher aid for twenty years and is fondly remembered by scores of former students.

Mildred was surrounded by a large group of friends and relatives. Her home was open to all and the coffee pot was always on. She was noted for her baking, especially donuts, cardamom biscuits and bread. She leaves behind generations of family who looked forward to visiting and enjoying her Finnish pancakes. She also loved card games and spent hours playing pinochle and cribbage. Mildred was an accomplished knitter and was proud of the sweaters she made for her grandchildren for Christmas.  

Her faith was also an important factor in her life and she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mass City. She was very active in the church activities throughout the years.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Walter, son Thomas, grandson Kyle and son-in-law Thomas Landree. Surviving are her daughters Sharon Miilu Landree, Debra (Bill) Shardlow, daughter-in-law Kathy, grandchildren Brandon Miilu, Brittney Miilu, Amy (Eric) Herber, Eric Shardlow, Nick Shardlow and great grandsons Grayson and Ethan Herber who always put a smile on her face. She is also survived by numerous special nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mass City, with visitation one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers contributions in her name may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wainola Lutheran Church or Unity Hospice in De Pere, WI.
