Muriel M. (Swen) Bailey 81 of Bergland passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Aspirus Grand View Hospital, Ironwood, MI after a brief Illness.

Muriel was born in Bergland on November 15, 1934, to Alfred and Selma (Erickson) Swen.  She attended Bergland Community School where she graduated from High School in 1952.  After graduation from High School in 1952.  After graduation she was employed for a time at White River Timber Company, then the U.S. Forest Service where she retired in 1990.  She was married to Carl D. Bailey on June 25, 1955, at Tinity Lutheran Church, Bergland, MI where they were both lifelong members, Muriel loved life, she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing board games, working puzzles and going to bible study with her friends.

Muriel is survived  by her husband Carl, her daughter Cheryl (Graig) Thompson of Crivitz, WI,  two grandchildren; Samantha Jaeger of Kalamazoo, MI and Steven Jaeger of Grand Rapids, MI and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Muriel was preceded in death by her sister, Anita (Swen) Applekamp and her parents, Alfred and Selma (Erickson) Swen

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 10:00 am until time of services at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bergland, MI with Pastor Timothy Steckling officiating.  Burial will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Bergland, MI. A luncheon will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church after services at the cemetery. 

The Cane Funeral Home of Bruce Crossing is assisting the family with arrangements.
