Carl Irving Olson, 91 passed away peacefully at the Omega House in Houghton, MI on July 9th, 2019. Irving was born in Mass City on June 12, 1928 to Amanda(Antilla) and Andrew Olson.
He graduated from Mass High School in 1947, then enlisted in the Army where he was stationed in Pennsylvania. When he was released from the service, he moved to Montana where he worked in the woods. On March 8th, 1952 he married Evelyn Toivonen in Detroit, MI.
After returning to Mass City they built their home and raised their family. He worked for Fox Valley Road Construction Co. and then for Lindberg Construction until he retired. His hobbies included going to the casino, hunting, fishing, reading about WWII, antique vehicles, and spending time at the Leapyear Lodge during hunting season. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Irving and Evelyn were proud members of the Wainola Lutheran Church.
Surviving is a sister, Patricia O'Shea of Ferndale, MI. Nephew, Mark O'Shea. son, Michael(Mary)Olson of Aura,MI. Daughters: Connie(Butch) Kilpela of Rousseau,MI; Dianne Ahola, Tracey Olson, and Shelley Pantti all of Mass City. Grandchildren: Michelle, Devin, Nicholas, Derek, Jamie, Keaton and Natasha. Five great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; parents, Andrew and Amanda; brother, Calvin; and close cousin, Bob Sten.
Funeral services will be held at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, MI on August 3rd, 2019. visitation from 11am with a service to follow at 12pm with Chaplain Kathleen Johnson officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately after at the Ontonagon VFW. A graveside service will be held afterwards at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland.
