Eino R. Kemppainen 84 of Mass City passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Aspirus Ontonagon Memorial Hospital’s Long Term Care Unit.

He was born September 23, 1932 in Mass City to Oscar & Ida (Hautamaki) Kemppainen.  Eino worked as a farmer and logger. Later he was employed by the Ontonagon County Road Commission as a heavy equipment operator. He worked at the road commission for 26 years.

On January 23, 1954 Eino was united in marriage to Shirley Schmaus. He was a life long member of the Wainola Lutheran Church in Mass City, Eino was an avid fisher and hunter. He also loved camping.

Eino is survived by his wife Shirley, children Arlene (Wayne) Dyess of Jackson, WY & Howard of Marquette, MI, grandchildren Ryan, Jared, Janelle, Keri, Deanna, Katherine & Wyanna,  9 great-grandchildren and Jill and Kevin Burke and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents & siblings Wayne, William, Helmi, Ina & Aileanne.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Wainola Lutheran Church in Mass City.  Friends may call at the church 2 hours prior to the start of the service. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery Greenland, MI.
