Eino W. Moilanen, age 90, passed into eternal life on Saturday, July 23, 2017.  He was born in South Range on April 23, 1927 and grew up in Rockland, the oldest of five children.

  During World War II, he served in the Seabees in China and later in his life became a lifetime  member of the American Legion.  After the war, he relocated to the Detroit area, where he completed the apprenticeship program for the Plumbers Union Local 98, working for Herman Koski Plumbing for over twenty five years as a journeyman.  He passed the examination for a Master Plumbing License and was a building  inspector for Livingston County, until his retirement.  He married Dorothy Kemp on August 6, 1948 and had two sons.  He was active in his church as an usher, a member of the Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus.  He was also affiliated with the Passionist Community, making annual retreats for over 20 years, supporting their work by repairing their plumbing.  He also had close friends in the monastery, and he enjoyed playing golf and fishing with the priests and brothers.


 He is survived by two sons, William and Lawrence (Sandy), six grandchildren Kristin (Jan Stroem), William (Erica), Daniel, Wesson (Jill), Stephen and Luke,  and four great grandchildren, as well as his sisters Shirley Kemppainen and Sally Gagnon, and brother George Schmaus. 

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents, his brother Bernard and his sister- in-law, Sherry Schmaus.

 A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland on Saturday, August 5 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Passionist Fathers at the St. Paul of the Cross Community, 23333 Schoolcraft Rd., Detroit, MI 48223-2405.

The Cane Funeral of Ontonagon is assisting the family with arrangements.
