Kenneth Charles Anderson

Kenneth Charles Anderson of White Pine, 88 years old, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2018 with his family by his side.  He was born April 11, 1930 to Charles and Wilma (Godell) Anderson at his grandparents home in Watton.  From ages one to four he lived with his grandparents.

His father was a logging contractor who passed away when Kenneth was four.  When he started school in Watton he could speak very little English, the teachers were very understanding.  He also lived in L’Anse, Detroit and Aura.

When Kenneth was 18 he worked at a sawmill and later a logging truck driver.   At age 21 he was drafted into the Marine Corps.  He served in the Engineer Battalion during the Korean War.  After his discharge he married Barbara  McNeil at the Methodist Church in Baraga by Rev. Guilliat.  In 1954 they moved to White Pine and he got a job as a Mechanic for 30 years at White Pine Copper Company.  He was also a member of the White Pine Fire Dept. for 21 years.  He also served on the church council of Faith Lutheran.

In 2006 he was awarded his high school diploma from the L’Anse High School by Bart Stupak.  It was a proud moment.  Another proud moment was when he was selected to go on the Honor Flight to Washington DC, he was so honored.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Barbara (McNeil), 3 Children;  Jim, Steve and Penny.  Grandchildren Rachel, Jeremy (Melinda), and Nathan (Molly MacGregor) Anderson.  Great-Grandchildren, Raquel Randall, Gabriella, Ethan, Briggs Anderson.  Step great grandchildren, Brook Marlatt and Chase MacGregor. His brother, Peter (Jean) Suomela and sister, Mary Ann (Dick) Hansen plus numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Anderson, mother, Wilma Suomela, Step-father, Walter Suomela and two daughters in law, Darlene and Jennie Anderson.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 AM at White Pine Community Methodist Church and a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM  with Pastor Rosemary DeHut officiating.  Burial will take place in the spring at Baraga Cemetery.

The Cane Funeral Home of Ontonagon is assisting the family with arrangements.
