Mary A. Saaranen

Mary Alyce Saaranen, age 81, of Mass City, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 8th, 2018 at Bayside Village in L’Anse, MI.

Mary was born in Byron, MI to William E. and Coralie N. Pickard on July 24, 1937.

She grew up in a loving family of 7 kids.

Mary went to school and graduated from South Lyon, MI. in 1955

She moved from Novi to Mass City in the early 70’s.

She married Frank E. Saaranen on July 3rd, 1973

Mary worked as a school bus driver for 40+ years in Novi, MI and the Ontonagon school district, also as a school bus driver instructor at Northern Michigan University.

Mary was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 34 years Frank E. Saaranen, both of her parents William E. and Coralie N. Pickard, her brothers Robert E. Pickard, and Samuel R. Pickard, and her sister Marjorie Ellen Pickard.

Mary is survived by her children, Becky and husband Chris Smith,  William Stowell,  Randall and wife Shelly Stowell.

Her sisters Coralie J. Brow, Arlene Johnson, and Elizabeth Haswell, Her companion and best friend Norman Peterson,

and Her 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, MI. on Saturday the 18th of August, 2018

Visitation will be at 12 noon, followed by funeral services with Pastor Mike Locker and Pastor Joe Penegor at 1pm, with grave site burial service to follow immediately at the Rousseau cemetery, with a memorial luncheon get together to follow at the St Paul’s Lutheran church in Mass City.
