Phyllis Weisinger (81) of Mass City, MI passed away peacefully at Country Villa Assisted Living in Pulaski, WI and went to meet her Lord and Savior on September 5, 2017. She was blessed to have family at her side. Phyllis was born on December 27, 1935 to Waino and Bertha (Store) Kangas in Hancock, MI.

She was raised on a dairy farm in the Rousseau area and graduated from Mass High School in 1953. Post graduation she attended Suomi College, graduating with a degree in bookkeeping-accounting in 1955 and was a cheerleader for the Suomi mens basketball team. She worked in Forest, IL as a personal attendant to the family of the Morton Salt Company and also was a bookkeeper for the White Pine Mine.

She married Carl Weisinger of Ontonagon, MI on November 27th, 1954. They made their home on East Branch Rd. in Mass City, MI. Where they raised their five children.

She was the bookkeeper for their family business, Weisinger Trucking for over 38 years. To promote and advance her finnish heritage, she joined the Ladies of Kaleva, Ainon Tupa #13 in 1991 as a 3rd generation member, and was their treasurer for 20 years. She was a Life Member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary 4167 since 2001, volunteered with Lutheran Brotherhood, and the school PTA. She enjoyed organizing and contributing to her class reunion functions and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mass City.

Throughout her life she enjoyed planning activities that surrounded her with family and friends. These included camping, 4th of July cookouts at Twin Lakes, and lunch dates of pasties with her husband on the shores of Lake Superior. Thanksgivings at Pine Lodge and baking for all the hunters during hunting season. A tradition she always looked forward to was the dinner nite at camp during deer season and hunters supper at the VFW 4167. She loved to travel, partridge hunt, and entertain all guests that visited her home. Never would you leave without enjoying some coffee, lemonade, nissu, juustoa, or other homemade goodies. She loved to dance and taught that to her children all the way down to grandchildren. She would push the table back and reveal an instant dance floor. Other Traditions she loved were Family holidays on Christmas Eve, bonfires and sledding on Potato Hill in their backyard. Although the love of her life was truly making memories with family and friends. Her Sisu and legacy of love for family and community will be missed and admired by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents Waino and Bertha Kangas, stepmother Esther Kangas, sister Sally Pollard, daughter Cindy, son Edward, and two infant sons. In-laws William and Lucille Weisinger, and one great grandson Lee Alan Renard.

She is survived by her husband Carl Weisinger, sister Elaine Kuntz, five children Brad (Kelli) Weisinger of Madison, WI, Julie Egezeino of Lake Geneva, WI, Robert (Tammy) Weisinger of Lennon, MI, Bill (Cathy) Weisinger of Munising, MI and Jill (Tom) Davis of Krakow, WI, grandchildren Casey (Kevin) Weisinger-Hanson, Jonathan (Elyse) Egezeino, Jenna Egezeino, Corey Weisinger, Kyle Weisinger, Kristi Anttila, Cody Davis, Kristen (Eric) Davis-Renard, McKai

Davis, Cashten Davis, and Davis adopted grandchildren Amanda Cuene, and Alyssa (Theo) Cloud, great grandchildren Harli Egezeino, Blake Hanson, Violet Leiva, Faith Egezeino, a Great grandaughter Renard due in December 2017, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mass City, MI on Monday September 11th, 2017. Family and friends may visit from 10-12 with service to follow. Pastor Jay Welshonse will officiate and internment will be at a future date at the Maple Grove Cemetery.
