Aileen Sophia Nygard, 96, passed away May 30, 2008 in the presence of her family at Omega House in Houghton.

Born March 29, 1912, Aileen was the daughter of William and Maria Baasi of Iron, Minnesota. She married a handsome young man, Arthur Nygard in September, 1933 and they were later blessed with two loving children, daughter, Darlene (Dorvinen) and son, Ronald Nygard. Aileen was a strong woman with a great sense of humor and a loyal character. Her life evidenced her love for her family. She was a wonderful grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and leaves them with fond memories. She was dearly loved.

Aileen is survived by her grandchildren, Gary (Martha) Dorvinen, Debbie (Jerry) Myrblom and Susie Dorvinen; five great-grandchildren, Renee, Jason, Jessica, Joy and Abbie; and two great-great granddaughters, Madyson and Miley. She was preceded in death by her husband and two children.

A graveside service was held at the Riverside Cemetery on June 2, 2008.
