Alfred Gerard Bourdeau, 86, formerly from Rockland and recently Calumet, died peacefully at the Omega House on April 28, 2015.
Alfred was born November 15, 1928, in Lake Linden, a son of Camille Fredinand Bourdeau and Clara Louise (Bebeau) Bourdeau. He graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1947 and enlisted in US Army that fall, where he served his country for 16 years.
He married Jeannette Anderson of Rockland on January 17, 1958 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he was stationed. After discharge from the US Army in 1963, he joined the National Guard. He spent 5 years with the Lansing Unit and transferred to the Baraga Unit in 1971 and served another 15 years. Afterward, he retired from the National Guard and lived in Rockland, where he was a member of the American Legion Post 92 and the VFW Post 5600 in Ontonagon.
During the time he lived in Rockland, he worked at Wedtech in Ontonagon and was the Rockland Township Supervisor. His favorite pastimes were bingo and going to the casino. All his friends will remember him by his nickname, "Fritz."
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife Jeannette, on February 4, 2007 and recently his sister Irene Wilmes, on February 1, 2015. He was also preceded by his parents, sisters and brothers.
He is survived by his brother, Gorgon Bourdeau; his sons, Wayne (Mary) Bourdeau and Richard Bourdeau; a granddaughter, Kaylene Bourdeau; step-grandaughters Tawnya Mills and Amanda Kitzman; along with five step-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 12 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Rockland, with Pastor Bruce Steinberg officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. for family and friends.
Burial will take place following the Memorial Service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland with luncheon afterwards. The Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to: Dr. Hafeman, Aspirus- Keweenaw Home Health and Hospice, Garden View Assisted Living and the Omega House, for the years of caring and giving.
