Obituary

Alice O. Martin 89 of Greenland passed away January 13, 2007 at Ontonagon Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care Unit.

She was born July 18, 1917 in Ontonagon to the late Julian and Mary Louise (LaCasse) Draze. Alice attended the Ontonagon Schools. In 1935 she married the late Ivan Martin of Greenland. They made their home in Greenland where she resided with her children

Alice was employed as a bookkeeper/clerk for 25 years at Olson's Furniture Store in Ontonagon, retiring in 1978 when Olson's Furniture Closed.

She was a seamstress and did sewing and alterations for local people. Alice enjoyed time spent on the shores of Lake Superior picking agates; she first started agate picking with her father when she was a child. Her life was her children and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cared very much for her family and family gatherings and was responsible for several family reunions. The last reunion she attended was Labor Day weekend in 2005 in Greenland with over 100 family members attending, including her 2 brothers and 2 sisters and all her children, lots of grandchildren and nieces and nephews. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her special companion Jack "Edwin" Reynolds and spent many winters in California with her daughter and family.

Alice is survived by her special companion Jack "Edwin" Reynolds, her children, Gail Immonen (Hubert Lukkari) of Greenland, Sue (Phil) Broadhead of Fountain Valley, CA, Anita (Carl) Pantti of Greenland, Jim (Lorraine) Martin of Millington, MI, John (Colette) Martin of Millington, MI, Muriel Roberts of Rockland and Pat (Jerry) Walker of DePere, WI and Ontonagon, 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, her sisters Muriel (Tom) Pawielski of Munising and Frances (Walt) Gray of Bessemer, a brother David (Angie) Draze of Richland, WA and Hemitt, CA and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ivan Martin in 1956, sisters Lucille Chartrand, Cecelia Hawkins and Luella Draze, brothers Bill Draze and Jim Draze, 2 son-in-laws Kenneth Immonen and Steven Roberts.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 17th at the Cane Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 18th at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland, Father Antony Lukose officiating. Spring internment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland.
