Annabelle M. Bigge, 95, of Ontonagon, Michigan, passed away at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital on July 1, 2008. Annabelle was born in Park Falls, Wisconsin, on July 29, 1912, to Henry and Anna (Boyer) Hoefferle. She was the sixth of eight children and was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Henry (Nonie), Clarence and Elmer (LaVerne) and sisters Helena Hoefferle and Irene (Hank) Feit. She is survived by her sister Margaret Corrigan and brother Norman (Dessie) Hoefferle.
Joseph F. Bigge and Annabelle were united in marriage on June 27, 1934, at Holy Family Church in Ontonagon. Annabelle and Joe left immediately after their wedding ceremony in a biplane piloted by their good friend, Julian Schuster. They took off for Park Falls, landing a mere hour later in a farmer's hayfield. They emerged unscathed from the plane and headed for their wedding reception.
Annabelle was the last surviving member of the charter Corneaters Club. Most locals will recognize the Corneaters from their sometimes infamous Labor Day floats, periodic style shows, and some memorable parties. There were some who mistakenly thought this was a secret society when it was really a group of fun-loving women who liked to play cards and keep up on all the local news.
Annabelle enjoyed a good party, while vigorously dancing the Charleston, polka, and schottische. Later in the evenings, she also enjoyed romantic waltzes with Joe.
She took great pride and joy in her home and family. She and Joe raised five childrena
