Obituary

August Moses "Augie" Huotari 86 of Mass City passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital.

He was born September 4, 1921 in East Branch to the late Henry and Anna (Heikkinen) Huotari. After graduating high school, Augie served in the Army during World War II. During the war, he was held as a POW inside Germany. Augie was awarded the Purple Heart during his service time.

He was a lifetime resident of Mass City, with his heart forever in East Branch. Augie served as Post Master in Mass City from 1946 to 1977. He also worked in the woods, peeling pulp. Augie enjoyed baseball, basketball, bowling and golf. On August 4, 1951 he was united in marriage to the former Jeanette Penegor.

Augie is survived by his wife Jeanette, children Joseph (Karen) of York, PA, Anthony of L'Anse, MI, Daniel (Lynn) of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Joan (Patrick Pattison) of Mass City, MI and Paul (Lynn) of Twin Lakes, MI, grandchildren Heather, Stephanie, Erick, Matthew, Andrew, Christine, Luke, Damon, Ethan, Lauren, Lyric and Cale, great-grandchildren Finn and Shaylee, sisters Mary Norkoli and Jeannie (James) Williams, sister-in-law Bernice Huotari and numerous nieces , nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 children Mary, Stephen and Anne and 3 brothers Charlie, Andrew and Waino.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 18th at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland. Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland. The Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.
