Aune Kaurala, 95, of Mass City, MI, died June 18, 2012 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital's Long Term Care Unit.
Aune was born June 26,1916 in Mass City, the daughter of the late Herman and Evi Aho. She attended the local schools and graduated from the Greenland Township High School with the Class of 1934.
Following a short course on accounting methods, Aune began her employment as a bookkeeper and clerk with the Mass Cooperative Company. She was also employed in a factory in Detroit an at Unity Co-op in Eben Junction for a short time during the war years. She continued her full-time employment with the Mass Co-op until the birth of her daughter, and worked as needed after that.
Aune was united in marriage to Martin Kaurala on June 26, 1948. They made their home in the Mass City area. Martin preceded her in death on May 10, 2010.
Aune's family was the focal point of her life. She will be remembered for the loving care she gave her family, especially her mother and husband during their later years. Aune enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, tatting and knitting, and created many decorative and functional items for her family and friends. She also liked to cook and bake.
Aune is survived by her daughter, Helen Kaurala; a niece, Shirley Aho (Frank Raisanen) of Ishpeming, MI; a nephew, Gary Aho (Becky Petrusch) of Bessemer, MI; and several cousins. Her brother, Arne Aho preceded her in death.
Funeral Services for Aune will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, with Dr. Earl B. Kaurala presiding. Visitation will take place from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Eastern time.
