IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara M.
Pflughoeft
December 30, 1948 – October 24, 2025
Barbara Marie Pflughoeft, nee Bashara, was born December 30th, 1948 in Ironwood, MI and died at her home in Watersmeet, MI of natural causes Friday October 24th, 2025. She reached 76 years, 9 months, 29 days
After graduating from Ironwood High School June 1967, she attended Gogebic Community College, married Rex Allen Pflughoeft June 8, 1969, and they both graduated with education degrees from the University of Michigan. She worked part time at Watersmeet's post office for many years while raising her family and was then postmaster for nearly 30 years, retiring about 7 years ago.
Barb's greatest love was being a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. While her family was spread around the world, she always called, sent gifts and cards, and was a wise (sometimes blunt!) encourager to family and friends alike. She never spoke ill of anyone and always found the good in people.
Barb loved to fish, walk, cross country ski, read, and shop at thrift stores. Of all things, she collected "typewriters" – many of them! She enjoyed her candles, a nice glass of wine, and was a great cook especially the ethnic foods of her Lebanese and Finnish heritage. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and with both Orthodox and Lutheran church heritage she had a great passion for researching the ancient Christian church.
Barbara is survived by her husband Rex; son Roy (Cynthia) Pflughoeft; daughter Melissa Haapala; grandchildren Michelle, Jacob, Marie (Dustin), Emma (Zach), Isabel, Sophia, Liliana, and Olivia; and great-grandchildren Hazel (7) and Rosanna (just 1 week old). She is also survived by her older brother Ken (Judy) Bashara and twin sister Judy Wallace (Barb is the older one!).
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Abraham and Eva (Ahonen) Bashara and brother-in-law Mike Wallace.
Our sweet Barbara was a kind, generous, compassionate woman with a great wit and sense of humor who will be deeply missed by the multitude of people whose lives she touched.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11 am Central time at Hope Lutheran Church in Land O' Lakes, WI. Friends may come to the church 1 hour prior to the start of the service. A light luncheon at the church will follow.
