Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bertha Peterson, who departed this life on July 24, 2026, surrounded by love and peace during a short stay at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility. Born on September 11, 1923, in the serene town of Rockland, Michigan, Bertha graced this world with her warmth and kindness for nearly 103 years.

Bertha was the beloved daughter of Matt and Rauha Aho. Her life was a testament to the values and traditions instilled in her by her loving parents. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Harvey, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories and an unbreakable bond. Also preceding her in death were many other beloved family members and friends in the Rockland, East Branch, and Woodspur areas.

Bertha's legacy lives on through her family, who will forever cherish the memories they created together. She is survived by her children: James Peterson and his wife Debbie, Gary Peterson and his wife Maria, Bob Peterson and his wife Gail, and Mary Foster and her husband Scott. Her legacy extends to her treasured grandchildren: Dan and his wife Kristen, Dave and his wife Cassie, Ryan and his wife Chelsea, Rachel, Meredith and her husband Andrew, Megan, Matthew, and Michael. Each brought her immense joy and pride. Bertha was also blessed with great=grandchildren Case, Laina, Willam Harvey, William, Elizabeth, Denae, Jaiden, Nevaeh and Finn as well as great-great grandchildren Ava and Elijah who will carry forward her spirit in their hearts.

In honoring Bertha's life, her family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses at Horizon Home Care and the Commission on Aging. For over a decade, these compassionate caregivers not only tended to Bertha's needs but also those of her dear husband, Harvey. Their dedication and kindness will not be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, at the Siloa Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at 10:00am with funeral service at 11:00am, Pastor Bill Jacobson officiating. A luncheon will take place in the church basement with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland to follow.
