Carl Thomas Kettunen passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026, at Our Lady of Mercy in Hubbell, Michigan. He was born on November 11, 1951, at Ontonagon Memorial Hospital to Thomas and Ruth Kettunen of Calderwood, Michigan, in the Bond Falls area.

Carl was a longtime resident of Trout Creek and was a man who found some of his greatest enjoyment in the simple things-time spent outdoors, a day on the water, and the excitement of the hunt. His love of hunting and fishing was a lifelong passion, one he was fortunate to share with the people he loved.

Carl was married to Mandy Morris of Bruce Crossing for 10 years. Together, they shared many of his favorite outdoor pursuits, creating memories that remained special to him. Following Mandy's passing, Carl found love and companionship with Rita Terry, with whom he shared more than 25 fulfilling years. Rita shared Carl's deep appreciation for hunting and fishing, and the two enjoyed countless days together in the great outdoors.

In 2011, Carl accomplished what became one of his most memorable hunting stories when he got a record-breaking 19-point, 227-pound buck in Ontonagon County-a story that was undoubtedly told more than once and will be remembered by those who knew him.

Carl worked for 10 years at the White Pine Copper Mine, but his true passion was working independently as a logger throughout the area. He was proud of his work and of the life he built in the community he called home.

Carl will be lovingly remembered by his longtime partner, Rita Terry; his siblings, John Kettunen of Trout Creek, Judith Kettunen of Calumet, Marian (Leo) Helppi of Bruce Crossing, and Elsie Kettunen of Lansing; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and cousins. He leaves behind many family members and friends who shared his love for the outdoors and will carry fond memories of their time spent with him.

Carl lived a life connected to the land and the people around him. His love of hunting, fishing, logging, and the outdoors was woven into who he was, and those who knew him will remember him for the stories, the memories, and the time shared along the way.

In keeping with Carl's wishes, a very short graveside service for his friends and family will be held at Agate Cemetery with the time and date to be announced.

Following the burial, friends and family are invited to gather at the Trout Creek American Legion Hall to share memories, stories, and time together in remembrance of Carl.
