Carol Jean Nelson 67 of White Pine, MI died Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Marquette General Hospital following a long battle with diabetes.

She was born October 30, 1939 in Iron River, MI to Thomas R. Ward and Nydia L. (King), attended Gaastra and Stambaugh schools and graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1957.

On July 11, 1959, she married Carl August Nelson at First Lutheran Church of Iron River and resided in the Iron River area until moving to white Pine in 1968.

She was employed during high school at the A & W Root Beer Stand in Iron River and in later years at Antonio's Restaurant in Bergland and the Pastry Palace in White Pine.

She is survived by her husband Carl of White Pine, a daughter, Lynn L. Brown of Mass City, a son; Carl Nelson, Jr. of Silver City, a granddaughter, Kari Lynn Miles of Lansing, MI and a grandson, Kevin L. Miles of Madison, WI, four brothers, Dale T. (Barbara) of Iron Mountain, MI, Dennis (Betty Lou) of Mesa, AZ, Patrick of Iron County Medical Care Facility of Crystal Falls, MI and Michael A. (Donna) Ward of Port Aquarius, TX along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1983, her mother in 2005 and a brother Garold R. Ward of Stambaugh in 2004.

Plans for a springtime memorial service are pending and arrangements are being made with the assistance of the Cane Funeral Home.
