Catherine "Katie" Anne Johnson Parkila passed away December 15, 2007 at the Maple Manor Nursing Center.
She was born Sept 5, 1918 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Parents Anna & William Gauthier
Katie's mother died when she was 5 years old. She and 2 of her sisters went to reside in the Marquette County Orphanage for 7 years. She married Elmer "Ole" Johnson in 1935. They lived in Ontonagon, Dearborn and returned to Ontonagon in 1951. They had a son LeRoy Johnson and raised their niece Beverly Burke since the age of seven. Following Ole's death, Katie married Bill Parkila of Alston on June 30, 1990. Together they lived in Alston until 2003, when she moved to the Maple Manor Nursing Center in Ontonagon due to an extended illness.
Katie was an excellent homemaker, cook avid reader and bowler. She worked at the Ontonagon Style Shop for several years. She and her husband Ole also managed the Ontonagon Country Club for 3 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ole, in 1985, her son LeRoy in 1996, her sisters Margaret Finger, Mary Stang, and Ruth, and her brother Harold Gauthier.
Katei is survived by her husband Bill Parkila, her granddaughter Ronda Atkins and grandson Jacob, her daughter Beverly and son-in-law Michael Burke, and their children Maureen, Sean, Brett, Heather, and Tim, and several great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, December 21st 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon. Friends may call at the Church 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
The Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.
