Obituary

Charles A. "Tony" Hautamaki, 51 of Ontonagon, passed away on April 4, 2012, at his home.

Tony was born in Wakefield, Mich., on April 2, 1961, to Walter and Naimi "Florence" Hautamaki. He graduated from Ewen-Trout Creek High School in the Class of 1981. Tony married Vicki Norris on Nov. 30, 1990, in Paynesville, Mich.

He attended a Journeyman Millwright Training Course, in Marquette, Mich., and obtained his Associate Degree in the Millwrights. He was a member of the local Union out of Escanaba, Mich. Prior to earning his degree in the millwrights, he worked at the White Pine Copper Mine for 10 years.

Tony also worked for General Electric, Hautamaki Mechanical and Atlantic Plant Maintenance for seven years. He received many training certificates in numerous skills including Combustion Turbines, Aerial Lift Operator, Steam Turbine Qualifications and Steam Turbines, and completed several other training courses.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki, daughter, Tiffany (Travis Karppinen) of Hubbell, Mich., and a stepson, David (Muria) Baker of Marshall, Wis.; three sisters, Ann (Tom) Colgin of Ontonagon, Sharon DeVowe of Iron River, Mich., and June (Bob) Reichardt of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers, Ron (Linda) of Goodrich, Mich., Alton (Carol) of Bruce Crossing, Mich., Eugene (Sally) of Trout Creek, Mich., and Joe of Schulenburg, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to being a grandpa in September.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Walter; and three brothers, Bruce, Roy, and John.

Tony was a wonderful, kind and gentle man who loved to hunt and fish. He was a proud father, and his family was his life. He will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be held at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon on Monday, April 9, 2012, from 12 to 1 p.m., with funeral services to immediately follow. A fellowship dinner will take place at the VFW Hall in Ontonagon after funeral services.

Interment will take place at Agate Cemetery.

Memorials can be made at the State Bank of Ewen.

The family of Tony wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to the paramedics, and all those who cared for us and were a part of our lives.
