Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Wilber, 88, of Rockland passed away peacefully on March 25, 2011 at the Aspirus Ontonagon Long Term Care Unit in Ontonagon, with family by his side.

Charles was born March 29, 1922 in Winegar, Wisconsin to parents Harley and Enid Wilber. He graduated from Rockland High School in 1942 and joined the US Army shortly after. On July 19, 1944 he married his high school sweetheart, June Fredrickson. They had seven children during their 45 years of marriage.

Chuck worked for the U.P. Power Company in Victoria for 35 years, retiring in 1986.

Chuck enjoyed golfing, watching his grandchildren's sports, going to the nickel machine at the casino, visiting his condo in St. Petersburg, FL during the winter months for many years, butter pecan ice cream, and bingo at the Long Term Care Unit for the last two years. He was a member of many organizations in Rockland, including the Rockland Methodist Church, American Legion Post 92, the Volunteer Fire Department and the Rockland Board of Education.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June; parents, Harley and Enid Wilber; daughter, Susan; brother, Joseph, Jim and Darrell; and half-sister, Rosemary Gue.

Charles is survived by his children, Sandy (Jim) Jackson, Gail "Cis" (Roy) Miilu, Charles Wilber, Jr., Richard (Joan) Wilber, Jeffrey (Michelle) Wilber and Gregory (Julie) Wilber. He is also survived by 18 blessed grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way.

Funeral services for Charles will take place Wednesday, March 30 at 2 p.m. at the Rockland Methodist Church. Friends may call from noon until the time of service.
