Dale Blake went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 16th, in Ironwood, MI. James Dale Blake was born on the Ridge in Greenland, Michigan, on February 29th, 1936, to Gladys (Trevorrow) Blake and William Blake. He graduated from Mass City High School in 1955 and was a member of the 1955 Mass Rockets State Championship Class D basketball team.
He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Niemi, on June 23rd, 1956. They moved to Ontonagon and started a service station business in 1958. Dale and Mary Ann were founding members of Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Ontonagon. Together they raised three children: Judy, Jerry, and David. He retired in 1997 and then enjoyed traveling, hunting with his dogs, and spending time with family and friends. After Mary Ann's passing, Dale married Shirley Dorvinen on June 7th, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; brothers Clyde, Donny, and Harry; wife Mary Ann; wife Shirley; daughter Judy; and grandson Kurt. He is survived by his sons Jerry (Anna) and David (Yvonne); grandchildren Daniel (Jessie), Elise, Kaisa (Corbin), Paige (Stephen), and Micah (Ashley); and great-grandchildren Ozzie, Boden, Maija, Sutton, Ava, and two arriving soon.
The family would like to thank the staff from Ontonagon County Commission on Aging, Horizon Home Care, and Westgate Nursing for their care and assistance.
The funeral will take place on November 22nd, Saturday at Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Ontonagon, with visitation from 2:00pm - 3:00pm, service at 3:00pm. A luncheon will follow along with the burial at Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland. Jim Johnson will be officiating.
Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
