Obituary

Dale Brookins, 72, of Ontonagon, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011 at his home.

Dale was born in Ontonagon on March 24, 1939 to parents Alvah and Mildred (Kranke) Brookins. He served in the United States Army from 1960-1962 and was stationed in Alaska. Dale was a member of the White Pine American Legion. He also worked at the White Pine mine for 42 years, retiring in 2002. Dale was a kind man who knew everybody and was always willing to lend a hand. He loved animals and telling stories and jokes to his many, many friends. He often remarked that he was "not rich with money, but rich with friends." He enjoyed bowling and showcasing his prized 1964 Ford Thunderbird.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, LeRoy; and nephew, Paul.

Dale is survived by his siblings, Judith Hart, George (Inez) Brookins, Joanna (Tom) Pestka and Charlotte Haas; and sister-in-law, Donna Brookins. He is also survived by his children, Duane (Kelly), Dennis, Darren ("T"), Diane and Jonny; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his partner, Cindy Bear; his precious dog, Sassie; and many, many friends.

Funeral services for Dale will be held Wednesday, December 7 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ontonagon, with Pastor Howard Neider officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service.
