Obituary

Delmer Louis "Butch" Goodreau, 73, of Greenland, peacefully entered into eternal life Sunday morning, September 23, 2012.

Butch was born December 26, 1938 as the youngest of fifteen children to Homer and Grace (Gallineau) Goodreau of L'Anse. He was raised there where he served as an altar boy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and graduated from L'Anse High School in 1956. He entered the Navy in 1959, where he applied his skills as a radioman. While home on leave in July of 1962, he was talked into escorting the Strawberry Festival Queen in L'Anse and never let go. On May 25, 1963 he married Eva Ellise McIntyre. From there, they began to travel the world and start their family. In 1969, he returned to Michigan after proudly serving his country. He worked several jobs before settling in Greenland, MI in 1974. In 1995, he retired from Copper Range Company in White Pine, MI.

He loved his family dearly and if you struck up a tune, hours of enjoyment would ensue. A brilliant, quiet, strong, proud, honest husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and uncle whose laughter was literally contagious. Survivors that continue to carry Butch's tune include his wife, Eva Ellise (McIntyre); sons Michael, Patrick (Maribel), Donald, Jerald, Daniel (Olga) and daughter Denise (Jim) Pender; brothers Carl (Joan) Goodreau of Detroit, Albert (Pauline) Goodreau of Baraga and sister-in-law Betty Goodreau of Grafton, WI; 20 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and countless nieces and nephews.

He joins his parents and siblings Charles Goodreau, Donald (and wife Betty) Goodreau, Laura (Sr. Grace Albert) Goodreau, Lillian (and husband Cyril) Destrampe, Robert (and wife Aini) Goodreau, Rosemary (and husband Frank) Patierno, Homer Goodreau, Virginia (and husband Paul) Bosworth, Dolores (and husband Max) Little, Bernice Goodreau and Gale Goodreau in eternal life.

The family will have visitation at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland, MI on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. and the celebration of his life will be at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow at the Rockland Town Hall and interment will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery in L'Anse.
