IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Delores Allyn
Olson
February 8, 1933 – February 17, 2011
Delores Allyn (Haroldson) Olson, age 78, of Ontonagon passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Aspirus Long Term Care Unit in Ontonagon.
Delores was born February 8, 1933 in Flom, Minnesota, to parents George and Florence Haroldson. As a child she lived in Underwood, Minnesota and Duluth, Minnesota. Her family moved to Seattle, Washington as she entered high school. Delores graduated with the Ballard High School Class of 1951.
After graduation Delores took a clerical position as a civil servant for the Naval Supply Depot in Seattle. She often reminisced about being honored to board the battleship USS Missouri and view the area where the formal surrender document was signed that ended WWII. During her employment Delores received four 'Superior Accomplishment Awards' from the Department of the Navy and she was proud to be a member of the 'Gallon Club' for her generous donations of blood.
While in Seattle, Delores met the love of her life, Stuart Olson and on October 17, 1958, Stu and Delores were married. She resigned her employment at the Naval Depot when their daughter, Cheryl was born in 1962. Delores then became a full-time homemaker and mother, which she always said was the most rewarding and challenging 'employment' of all. Delores and Stu left Seattle for Ontonagon in 1966 and on their Anniversary that year, daughter Julie was born.
Delores enjoyed going to bingo in Rockland, visiting with her friends at the coffee table, making football predictions, painting her nails in bright colors and most of all being grandma to her beloved granddaughter, Ashly. She loved old-time musicals, enjoyed singing while working around the house and she instilled a strong love of music in her children. Delores believed in looking for the good in people and situations, often saying "don't judge others or talk badly about their problems, because you never know when it will be your turn." Despite numerous health issues, Delores embraced the last chapter of her life as a resident of the Aspirus Long Term Care Unit.
Delores is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Olson and Julie Olson of Ontonagon; beloved granddaughter, Ashly Ekdahl of Marquette, Michigan; brother, Dr. Delwyn Haraldson and sister-in-law Marina Haraldson of Lynwood, Washington; sister-in-law Diane Petrany and Joseph Petrany of Ishpeming; aunt, Alicia Olson of Monterrey, Mexico; nephews, Delwyn Haraldson, Jr. of Wisconsin, Roberto Haraldson and Francois Haraldson of Los Angeles, California; and John Haraldson of Corvallis, Oregon; nieces, Lisa (Matt) Rettke and Family of Honolulu, Hawaii, Tina (Chris) Bosio and Family of Traverse City, Michigan; several cousins and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of fifty years, Stuart; sister, Lucille Judd, and mother-in-law Irene Olson of Ishpeming, Michigan.
