Obituary

Dennis Niemi, 62 of Bruce Crossing, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009. He was born October 31, 1946 at Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, MI. to the late Albert Niemi and Judith Niemi of Bruce Crossing.

Dennis was a decorated combat veteran of Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Army HHC 2/27 Infantry Division and receiving an honorable discharge in August of 1968. He retired from his private business, Scorpio Vending, in 2002.

Dennis was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, V.F.W., National Rifle Association, and Whitetails Unlimited. He was an avid hunter, excellent deer tracker, fisherman, and log home builder, along with being a friend and loved one to many throughout the northwoods. His family will remember him by his incredible sense of humor and his compassion for others.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Niemi (Hill) (Bruce Crossing), his two children, Amber Niemi and Drew Niemi (Phoenix, AZ), step-daughter, Jamie (Craig) Demary (Green Bay, WI), his mother Judy (Albert) Niemi (Bruce Crossing), his in-laws, Dave & Alice Nykanen (Bruce Crossing), and his two brothers, Jim Niemi (Bruce Crossing) and Robert & Stella Niemi (Wakefield). He is predeceased by his father, Albert Niemi, and step-son, Josh Hollier.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 11:00 until the time of services (1 pm) at the Bruce Crossing Apostolic Lutheran church with Pastor Elmer Liimatte officiating. Military burial honors will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Hillside Cemetary.
