Donald "Donny" Ernest 64 of Ontonagon passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 06, 2007.

He was born September 1, 1943 in Ontonagon to the late Lawrence & Dona (Thompson) Ernest. At the age of 15 Donny began working in the woods. In 1980 he took over his father's business and continued to work as a logger until his passing.

On July 29, 1961 Donny was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Bergroth. He loved to garden and work in his garage. Donny enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and football games on television. He was a kind person who had a passion for his work and family. Donny will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Ontonagon, son Dennis (Christine) of Escanaba, son-in-law Jon Messner of Milwaukee, grandchildren Hollie, Tyler and Brittany, brothers Norman and Richard, sister Sharon and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Donny was preceded in death by his parents, daughters Laurie Jean Ernest and Diane Messner and nephew David Ernest.

Funeral services will take place at the Cane Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the start of the service. Spring burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery in Ontonagon.
