Obituary

Dorothy J. Kero, 75, of Ontonagon passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Bayside Village Nursing Home in L'Anse, where she had been a residence since June 2012.

Dorothy was born August 9, 1937 in Ontonagon; the daughter of Arthur and Ester Besson. She married Ralph Kero on July 27, 1957. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1994.

She worked at Settler's Co-Op as a butcher for several years and retired from the Housekeeping Department at Ontonagon Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Siloa Lutheran Church in Ontonagon. Dorothy enjoyed many years with her special friend and companion, Eli Isotalo. They attended dances throughout the Upper Peninsula and traveled to many of Eli's Army reunions.

Dorothy is survived by her children Brian (Tammy) Kero of Ontonagon, Brenda (Jim) Sullivan of Nisula, Barbara (Randy) Velmer of Alston, Bonnie (Jim) Spitz of Mass City, and Becky (Roger) Stewart of Elgin, South Carolina; grandchildren Heidi, Heather, Jim, Katie, Ben, Dillon and Roger; great-grandchildren Harrison, Emmy, Emerson, Ireland and Landon; brothers Robert and Glen Besson and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Kero and parents Arthur and Esther Besson; sister Mary Lou and sister-in-law Aiko.

Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, with Pastor Kristin Rice officiating. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow at Siloa Lutheran Church in Ontonagon. Spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon.
