Dorothy Picotte, 90 of Ontonagon passed away February 28, 2013 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital.
Dorothy was born in (Huron Town) Houghton, MI August 6, 1922. She went to school in Rousseau and Ontonagon. Dorothy married Robert "Bud" Picotte in 1944. She had many jobs; cook at Wager's restaurant, the Doughnut Shop and head cook at the Ember's room at the Shamrock. When long term care opened, Dorothy was a nurse's aide until she retired. She was a lector at Holy Family Catholic Church for Father David Harris for many years. Dorothy enjoyed her many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Later, the highlight of her life was going to the Christina Center on Thursday nights. She shared her faith openly with everyone. One of the many highlights after church was going to breakfast with friends at Sly's CafAC.. Her very special friend was Kitty Bourbonais.
She is survived by 7 children, Judy Nygard, Bob (Cynthia) Picotte, Marwella (Bud) Longpre, Jim (Marlene) Picotte, Dale( Bonnie) Picotte, Diana (Dennis) Pantti, Ed (Jeanne) Picotte, brother James (Betty) Findley of Dallas, TX, 1 sister Mary (Walter) Lukkarila of Mass City, 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, George, 1 grandson Michael, her parents, sisters Ruth Ross, Patt Derochowski and Beverly Cleary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Monday, March 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon, Father Michael Jacobus celebrant. Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the Mass. Spring internment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Ontonagon. The Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Pallbearers were son, Edward Picotte, Grandsons Dr. Jim Picottte, Michael Picotte, Jimmy Robinson, Ricky Nygard and Danny Picotte.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Father Michael Jacobus for his faithfulness and support. And also to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital, especially Roger Haapala and Gary Koistinen for their great care and compassion to our family and for our mom in her last hours.
