Edward Floyd Greeno, 90 of Ewen died on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Long Term Care in Ontonagon.
Ed was born October 1, 1923 in Ewen, the son of Floyd and Bernice (Taylor) Greeno. He attended Ewen High School but left early to join the United States Army during WWII. He served from 1943-1946. Veterans who were unable to complete their schooling were entitled to receive their diplomas, and in June 2004, Ed was awarded his honorary High School Diploma.
On June 7, 1947, he was married to Elaine Fencil at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Vincent C. Savageau officiated. The couple resided in Ewen, during which he was employed for Turner Construction Company at White Pine and later worked as an employee of the White Pine Copper Mine. He was a partner in A & G excavating, a substitute bus driver for Ewen-Trout Creek Schools, and an EMT for the Ontonagon County Ambulance. Ed enjoyed hunting and spending time at hunting camp, fishing, and going to his cabin at Beaton's Lake. He will always be remembered for his "friendly wave."
Ed was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ewen American Legion Post #41, Ewen Senior Center, and 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elaine Greeno; daughters Charlene (Duane) VanCampenhout of Green Bay, WI and Janice (Gordon) Thomasini of Ewen; grandchildren Jay (Tanya) and Dawn VanCampenhout, great-grandchildren Dustin and Brody; and his brother Claude.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Arthur and Michael.
Visitation will be held from 12-1 p.m. Eastern at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. Eastern with Father Antony Kalapura as Celebrant. Spring burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Ewen. The Cane Funeral Home-Bruce Crossing Chapel is assisting the family.
