Eleanor Guzek, 93, of Ontonagon passed away July 27, 2012 at the Aspirus Ontonagon Long Term Care Unit.

She was born April 23, 1919 in Ontonagon to parents Joseph and Delia (Brooks) Picotte. She was one of 13 siblings. Eleanor worked many years in housekeeping at the old hospital, and then worked in the laundry department of the new hospital until her retirement. She also did housecleaning for many area homeowners and businesses, and catered numerous weddings and special occasions throughout the years.

Eleanor enjoyed making pinecone trees, sewing for herself and her family, cooking, baking, picking berries and making jams and jellies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Delia; infant daughter Carol Jean; daughter, Shirley Carsten; brothers Walter, Howard, Delmer, William, Robert, Lawrence, Joe and Clarence; sisters Delilah "Dee," Violet, Loretta, and Joyce; grandson Cpl. Nicholas O. Cherava, and son-in-law Thomas Cherava.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Sally Guzek (Tom Johnson); Sharon Cherava and Tim (Kerry) Guzek; grandchildren Tom (Becky) Johnson, Kerry (Troy Lawrence) Guzek; Kim (James) Gilmer, Christa Cherava, Cheryl Cherava, Coral (John) Occhipinti, Penny (Harry) Jones, Candy Cogswell and Richard P. Carsten; great-grandchildren Brittney, Thomas and Brooke Johnson; Cole and Mackenzie Gilmer; Athena (Heath) Occhipinti-Beck, Justin Jones, Stacie King and Tyler Cogswell; and great-great-grandchildren Davin King and Zachary Jones. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Eleanor was loved by so many and will be dearly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon with Father Michael Jacobus officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery of Ontonagon.
