Obituary

Elizabeth Ann (Gauthier) Engberg

Elizabeth, better known as Betty, was born in Ontonagon to George and Elizabeth Gauthier on September 16, 1922. Her childhood was spent between Ontonagon and Detroit spanning the years of the Depression where she gathered many stories of both hope and loss. She graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1940.

On December 27, 1945 she married John Engberg of Rockland and made a life there before moving back to Ontonagon 20 years later. After her mother died in 1964, Betty took care of her father until his death in 1982.

She worked at Maple Manor until her retirement in 1985. Betty had many interests throughout her life. In her early years, she enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, and attending baseball games...all the joys of a young family.

In her later years, Betty enjoyed trips to California, Las Vegas, and New York. She also loved golfing, ceramics, campfires, caring for the flowers on her deck, and coffee clutching with family and friends. She loved supporting her grandchildren at hockey games and figure skating programs. The sweaters and afghans she lovingly made will be forever cherished by her children and grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband John in 1991, her daughter-in-law (Lynda Engberg), her parents, and several aunts and uncles. She will be greatly missed by her children, Kristine Engberg, John (Diane) Engberg, Marsha Engberg, and Vicky (Mark) Szczepanik. Also by her grandchildren Christopher Engberg, Chad and Jared Sharkey, Tasha Sullivan, Cory and Brittany Szczepanik, and greatgrandchildren: Genna, Andrew, and Ethan Engberg; Haley, Jace, Ella, and Ava Sharkey.

Remember Betty with a smile...she always had one for everybody!
