Elizabeth "Betty" Londo, 89, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at the Largo Medical Center in Florida. She was spending time with her family in Florida.
Betty was born in Chassell on Jan. 23, 1918, daughter to Eugene Sr. and Ida Soumis. She graduated from Chassell High School.
On Nov. 20, 1941, she married Allen H. Londo, of L'Anse. They made their home in White Pine from 1956 to the present.
Betty was employed as a cook for the White Pine Schools for 19 years, retiring in 1979.
She was an active member of the St. Jude Altar Society. She loved playing cards, especially bridge and cribbage with her many friends. One of her greatest joys was cooking and baking for friends and family. Her dinner rolls were always a treat.
She was a helper to Al and her brother Walter in their greenhouses. She love to pick Chassell strawberries.
Betty was a loving mother and grandmother. She has five children, 16 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a brother, Walter (Virginia) Soumis, Chassell; a sister, Marie Bowdin, Sheboygan, Wis.; five children, Dean (Patricia), Lake Linden, Bonnie (Larry) Shea, Green Bay, Wis., Connie (Tom) Borseth, Bergland, Jerry (Kathy) Londo, Bessemer, and Dottie (Gary) Spolarich, White Pine; grandchildren, Kevin (Kim), Troy (Julie) Londo, Lisa (Bob) Beckman, Julie (Jeff) Kloster, Nick (Jodie) Zerillo, Todd (Lisa) Borseth, Penny (Pete) Bennett, Tim Borseth, Jason, Kari, and Becky Londo, Nicole (Scott) Makela, Gary Spolarich, Jessica (Jerry) Balcomb, Jaclyn (Darin) Sleger and Jennifer (Keith) Bartholomous; 32 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen; a sister, Helen Jane; and four brothers, Eugene, Tony, Jerome and Francis.
She was a loving mother and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
Visitation will be at St. Jude's Church in White Pine on Thursday, March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church Friday, March 23, at 11 a.m. EDT. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, all monetary donations will be donated to the American Heart Association in Betty's memory.
The Cane Funeral Home of Ontonagon is assisting the family.
