Eugene Ivan "Ozzie" Cogswell, 85 of Ontonagon, passed away on October 10, 2015 at Marquette General Hospital. Ozzie was born on December 15, 1929 in Ontonagon to Cassimir and Elizabeth (Aho) Cogswell.

Ozzie graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1949. He worked as a log truck driver after graduation until he was called to serve his Country in Korea from 1951 to 1952. While in Korea, Ozzie earned a Commendation for "meritorious service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy" in June of 1952. At the time of his Honorable Discharge, Ozzie earned the rank of Sergeant.

After his service to our Country, Ozzie returned to Ontonagon where he began to work on the Great Lake's with the P M Steamship Company. Once a position opened at the White Pine Copper Mine, he worked in the Mechanical Maintenance Department until his retirement.

Ozzie was kind to all. He loved the outdoors; hunting at various camps (Burrdock Hollow and Kakola Kids Camp); snowmobiling during the winter; fishing in the summer on the world famous "Chub". He always loved and made time for his nieces and nephews when they came to visit. That love stayed with him throughout his life until the end when Ozzie enjoyed watching his two great nephews play, grow, and feed them sugary treats. He enjoyed a warm beer and conversation at a local establishment or at his garage where you could find him daily during the warmer months.

Ozzie is survived by his brother, Theodore (Ann) Cogswell of Riverview, MI; and his sister, Donna Johnson of Jackson, MI. He is also survived and loved by 11 nieces and nephews, many cousins, and friends.

Per Ozzie's wishes a private burial was held. He was laid to rest in the family plot at the Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations be made to your local VFW in his honor.
