Eugene DeHut, 79, of Greenland passed away on March 28 in Ontonagon with his family by his side.
Eugene was born in Ontonagon, Michigan to Leon and Bernice DeHut on January 22, 1932. He graduated from Greenland High School in 1949. After graduation he joined the Air Force and then worked on the railroad in Detroit, Michigan before settling down in Greenland, Michigan. On August 25, 1956 he married Carol Karjalainen. They were married for 50 years. Eugene worked at the White Pine Mine and retired after 38 years. His favorite past time was watching the Detroit Tigers.
Eugene is survived by his children, Cheryl (Richard) Saari of Greenland, James (Judy) DeHut of Bessemer and Kim (Larry) Ross of Ontonagon; sisters, Delores (Bob) Dix of Greenland and Joann (Joe) Butala of Laurium; seven grandchildren, Kristy (Troy) LaFernier, Jennifer (Matt) Derke, Kelly (Dan) Wilcox, Christopher (Kari) Ross, Melissa DeHut, Kory Ross and Taylor Saari; seven great-grandchildren, Kori, Abby, Gracie and Les LaFernier and Rylee, Ryan and Ryese Derke.
Eugene is preceded in death by his wife Carol, mother Bernice and father Leon.
Visitation will be held at 4 p.m. with Funeral Services at 5 p.m. on April 1 at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon.
