Evelyn E. Maki, 90, of Mass City passed away at Bayside Village in L'anse on March 27, 2011, 2 days after the death of her husband of over 70 years, Onni Maki. She had resided at Bayside Village for 11 months and enjoyed visits from Onni four times a week.
Evelyn was born in Mass City on September 18, 1920 to Isaac and Maria (Lantta) Anttila. She graduated from Mass High School in 1938 and after working in Marttinen's Grocery store in Mass City, she married Onni Maki on June 24, 1940.
Evelyn devoted her life to caring for her family. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, sewing, drawing, and occasional visits to the casino.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings: sisters, Hilda (John) Hardy, Amanda (Andy) Olson, Ida (Bill) Tankard, Lempi (Eino) Sten, Rhea (Frank) Saaranen and brothers, Wilbert, Frank, Richard, Donald, Edwin and Brenolf.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Don) Hanley of Plymouth, MI; Corinne Barthell of Malibu, CA; grandson, David (Amy) Hanley; and great-grandson, Brian Hanley of Livonia, MI. She is also survived a brother, Ralph Anttila, of Mass City, along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Evelyn and her husband, Onni, will be held Thursday, March 31, at the Cane Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will take place Friday, April 1 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mass City with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m.
