Evelyn Marie (Toivonen) Olson, 80, of Mass City, passed away on January 2, 2015 following a brief illness.
Evelyn was born on January 17th, 1934 to Kaarlo and Eva (Kaurala) Toivonen. She spent her childhood on the family farm, graduated from Mass High School in 1951, and married Irving Olson on March 8th, 1952. They lived in the Detroit area for a short time before moving back to Mass City to raise their family.
She worked for many years as a butcher at the Mass Co-op and was a member or Wainola Lutheran Church.
Evelyn liked to bake and sew. She also enjoyed her flower gardens and was especially proud of her roses. Her family was most important to her and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who knew her as Nanny.
She is survived by her husband, Irving, of 62 years; son, Michael (Mary Williams) Olson of Aura, MI; daughters, Connie (Butch Burke) Kilpela of Mass City, Dianne Ahola of Mass City, Tracey Olson of Midland, MI, and Shelley Olson of Mass City; grandchildren, Michelle (Robert) LaBine, Devin (Kevin) Anttila, Nicholas Kilpela, Derek (Jill) Ahola, Jamie Ahola, Keaton Olson, and Natasha Pantti; great-grandchildren, Rory, Reece, Carter, Alissa, and Ally Grace (due in March); step-grandchildren, David (Jennifer) Woodruff, Zach, Alex, Colten, Finn, Danielle (Rich) Myers, and Malynda.
She is also survived by her brother, Gerald (Barbara) Toivonen of Crystal Falls, MI and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ernest, and son-in-law Harvey Ahola.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service at 12:00, followed by a luncheon at Wainola Lutheran Church in Mass City.
