Florence Rahkola, 87, passed away on March 30 at Aspirus Long Term Care in Ontonagon, where she was a resident.
Florence was born in Calumet, Michigan on July 28, 1923 to Thomas and Helen (Tiika) Kujala. She married William Rahkola in March 1941.
She graduated from Gogebic Community College as an LPN in 1968 and worked for 20 years at the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital. Florence was an avid reader, and she loved gardening and her raspberry patch. She liked to make jam from the raspberries which she shared with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, 3 children James, Cheryl, and Richard Rahkola, a grandchild, Jeffrey Laru, and a sister, Judy Maki.
Florence is survived by her children Delores Aho, Kathleen Laru, and Robert Rahkola; her sisters, Alice Penegor and Margaret Jacklin; her grandchildren, Dan Aho, Dave Aho, Deanne (Erik) Hendrickson, Richard (Melissa) Aho, Kevin Laru, Geoffrey (Amanda) Rahkola; and great-grandchildren, Heather, Stacy, Dallas and Bailee Aho, Tom and Mark Hendrickson, Taryn and Matthew Aho, and Mykala and Aliana Rahkola.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 27 at 1 p.m. at the Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon. The Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the Ontonagon Library.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Aspirus LTCU for taking such good care of Mom.
